A bigger engine size offers more maximum torque and will deliver serious power to your pedal more quickly. It&#8217;s no surprise then, that fans of high-revving Porsche power units are plumping for a rebore at the hands of the traditional Cargraphic company from Germany. <span id="more-782"></span></p>
<p>Each set consists of high-quality forged pistons along with Nikasil steel liners. The nickel silicon carbide coating doesn&#8217;t just serve to make the surface particularly resistant – it also improves the friction characteristics and interplay with the pistons. The conversion kits take into account the needs of both air and water-cooled 911 series – turbos and naturally aspirated engines. In any case the boost in performance can be clearly felt, although the number of different models around makes it impossible to give across-the-board performance specifications. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s the older 911 C1, 964 and 993 models above all, including the turbo and the GT2, which really lend themselves to the Cargraphic upgrade, particularly when a close look at the motor is on the cards anyway. Seeing as the pistons and liners are generally replaced in this case, the rebore itself hardly entails any extra costs. Depending on the conversion kit and basic model, the combustion chamber volume will increase from 3.6 to 3.8 or 3.9 litres; in the case of the C1 it&#8217;ll go up from 3.2 to 3.4 litres. However, even if you aren&#8217;t planning a major engine overhaul, the 2,940 to 3,400 euros (plus VAT) will be a good investment as well as directly topping up your driving pleasure account. </p>
<p>In an effort to make sure that the more modern water-cooled engines don&#8217;t run out of steam so quickly, the experienced Cargraphic company is also offering conversions for the 996 and 997 series. The GT3 and GT3 RS models – and the turbos &#8211; are beneficiaries here. The standard Cargraphic conversion kit here is the &#8220;Fast Road&#8221;, which increases the engine volume to 3.8 or 3.9 litres. As with the kits for the air-cooled 911, this one also boasts forged pistons and Nikasil-coated steel liners at a price of 2,900 to 3,400 euros (plus VAT). For the Porsche models 996 and 997 Turbo, including the GT2, the costs of a one-size-fits-all rebore to 3.8 litres are somewhat greater, at about 5,000 euros (plus VAT).</p>
<p>As a company with many years&#8217; experience in motor sports, the Palatinate vehicle fitter has got for the GT3/Cup for just about 5,000 euros (plus VAT) or  a Club Sports and Racing conversion kit to 3.9 litres in its repertoire of services. For maximum performance and efficiency, the engineers optimise the gravity and weight of all components by means of FEM calculation and implement these calculations using sophisticated milling. We use a special bridge construction, which guarantees durability and structural stability even under the toughest racing conditions. Another innovation: deep valve pockets give the camshafts more lift. </p>
<p>The traditional mechanical performance enhancements made by Cargraphic ensure with maximum reliability that today many Porsches just have more &#8220;oomph&#8221;. For many other 911-types, the company also offers replacement pistons and liners with the original specification as a spare part – so that the engine is soon purring again like it should. Because when a sports car is healthy, everyone is happy.<br />

<p>The TECHART paddle shifters were shown in a world premiere in the design study Concept One at the Geneva Motor-Show. The ergonomically mounted paddles allow the driver to shift up with a pull of the right paddle and to shift down with a pull of the left paddle. Hardwearing injection molded ABS parts ensure a pleasant paddle temperature – both at intensive insolation and hibernal temperatures.</p>
<p>Precise control as well as quick shifting and perfect handling offer a maximum of driving pleasure. Even for enthusiastic driving – with the TECHART paddle shifters the driver has the absolute control. Motorsport feeling – for on-track and on-road driving. </p>

Produced in-house by <a href="http://www.cargraphic.de/">Cargraphic</a> in Germany to the highest design and manufacturing standards, the wheels range from 19-22&#8221;. <span id="more-525"></span></p>
<p>With classically designed cast wheels with U- and Y-shaped spokes, the Racing (20&#8221;) and Sport (21-22&#8221;) both provide the perfect balance between elegance and dynamism. As you’d expect from the delicate optics the wheels are exceptionally light, but they are also robust and more than able to carry the load. Both have a reinforced cast alloy inner bed and a polished stainless steel outer rim that enhances the look and protects the inner centre from damage.</p>
<p>The Model GT is rotation-forged and the mass only seems to focus on a few key points like the five muscular double-spokes, which by the way come with an additional crossbeam in the GTR, and their power renders extra unnecessary ballast obsolete. The light metal wheel is available in 20,21 and 22&#8221; and works in perfect optical and technical symbiosis with the Panamera’s big braking assembly. On the backside, the wheel has hidden air pockets to keep the unsprung mass to a bare minimum. </p>
<p>So to make a big impression on the street, choose the Porsche Panamera and I-10 (20-22&#8221;). The fan spokes are wide and run deep in to the edge of the wheel, so draw the eye in from the first glance. In the polished version the spokes pick up the light in dramatic style and the optional colours can make a big difference, too. Because of the hidden air pockets in the rotation-forged rim centre, the weight is astonishingly low, yet they’re strong and have a protective stainless steel outer rim. </p>
<p>The three-piece forged wheels stand as a true performance of engineering art. Just to make the centre of the wheel out of a slice-shaped blank takes a huge CNC machine 90 minutes. Before the wedding between the outer and inner rims comes the painting ceremony. Here the customer can choose from either painted, even in special colours, or polished with acrylic clear coating. </p>
<p><strong>Flow-formed IS One is the perfect winter star</strong></p>
<p>With winter tyres the Panamera rules the streets with an iron grip in the cold spells, too. Cargraphic recommends alongside the model Racing, the more cost-effective, flow-formed, cast aluminium alloy Intra Sport One (IS One) in 19&#8221;. The one-piece combined the classic Y- and U-spokes to create a dynamic design that comes with a wide variety of tailoring opportunities through the optional special painting. The light metal wheel comes in silver or black as standard.</p>
<p>In conclusion: Thanks to the exciting light metal wheels of Cargraphic the Panamera has a very appealing look in the summer and can keep its elegant expression throughout the winter. </p>

German expert tuners Cargraphic, from Landau in der Pfalz, know this all too well. &#8220;It is not a task for amateurs, because the design of a modern exhaust is a proper science and requires exact knowledge of air flow technology&#8221;, explains Thomas Schnarr, who leads the company together with his brother Michael. <span id="more-473"></span></p>
<p> &#8220;On the one hand the engine should breathe as free as possible and on the other hand you have to meet emissions and noise regulations, which is a difficult compromise.&#8221; That&#8217;s why the Performance Company, as the Landau firm likes to describe themselves, invested early and heavily in exhaust technology to hit their ambitious targets. Cargraphic doesn&#8217;t just deliver street-legal cars, but also competes in motorsport and develops its products for ultimate performance. Manufactured in Devon, England, Cargraphic&#8217;s exhausts shine not only through acoustic and optical brilliance, but also increase performance from the engine through reduced back pressure. </p>
<p>&#8220;Great Britain has always had excellent products and sports cars&#8221;, says Michael Schnarr, speaking from experience after many years working with British classics and modern machines like the Aston Martin. The English branch of Cargraphic was founded in 1996 and now has 30 experienced craftsmen and cutting edge machinery on its 1650 square metre floor. Precision, automated CNC machines bend the aerospace-grade stainless steel pipes to exact angles with the minimum force. This ensures that the exhaust system retains its power for many years, despite exposure to corrosive elements.The attention to detail and the deep engineering in the fabrication has to be seen to be believed. But the highlight is, without a doubt, the in-house research centre that allows Cargraphic to produce exhaust systems with precisely defined characteristics and to keep step with new developments in the engine section. That&#8217;s how Cargraphic remains on the front line on the rear of the car.</p>
<p><strong>Optimising the central exhaust components: </strong><br />
<strong>The exhaust manifold</strong>: The path of the burnt gases starts directly behind the cylinderhead, which is connected to the cast iron or stainless steel manifold. Simple versions are often constructed as manifolds, while more powerful engines do generally have more complex shapes. Car tuners and motorsport companys like to use the so-called ‘flat manifolds&#8217;. Here the exhaust pipes are as close to equal length as possible, which improves performance and the torque-curve through the so-called Venturi effect: Inside the manifold a current of pressure is created during the ejection cycle, that sucks out the emissions out of the cylinder. The pistons do not face the same resistance and the engine can turn more freely. </p>
<p><strong>The catalytic converter</strong>: This cleans emissions and is a can-shaped component with a hoop shape entrance and exit. It folds out through a block of ceramic combs that are coated with various precious metals, such as platinum. They serve to catalyse the chemical breakdown of the emissions. But from the sporting view the catalytic converter has a decided disadvantage: Thanks to high-flow resistance it strangles the efficiency of the exhaust. That&#8217;s why Cargraphic develops aggressive sports catalysers with an inner core made of stainless steel for all current vehicles in their product portfolio. It can take far harder knocks and higher emission temperatures than ceramic without breaking. That&#8217;s a recipe for trouble-free driving, even with race suspension and increased power.</p>
<p><strong>Rear silencer</strong>: Depending on the design of the exhaust system, simple or a double version, there are one or two rear silencers. Inside it is separated into various compartments that are damped. The exhausts are forced to split into single airstreams, what helps the sound waves partially cancel each other out. Through cross sections and geometry the exhaust specialist Cargraphic can influence the engine power at this point, while varying the exhaust back-pressure. The lower that is, the less the pistons have to push, and that helps the engine maintain constant power and ultimate efficiency. </p>
<p><strong>Acoustic fine tuning of the opening / port sound</strong>: As with an instrument, the tuning of an exhaust system is very complex and the spectrum can vary depending on a number of elements. Thankfully, Cargraphic has a number of tools at its disposal. An exhaust arm filter, also called Helmholz-Resonator, can be used to damp various frequency sections. It&#8217;s possible to use ‘rainwater pipes&#8217;, too, pipes with perforated walls that are cut laterally, either completely or partially. Reflection blinds can also be added. A fourth possibility are Venturi jets that constrict the exhaust pipe for faster airflow. </p>
<p><strong>Exhaust Tip</strong>: For optical reasons the outlet is generally decorated with an attractive exhaust tip. Here there are various alternatives for the shape, as well as the single- or double versions. In addition there can be a special surface finish by chroming, polishing, painting or enamelling.</p>

<p>Also technically, the GEMBALLA exhaust system is compelling. As it is made of extremely heat-resistant and ultra-light titanium alloys, it is approximately 40 percent lighter than its serial counterpart made of stainless steel. Due to its improved exhaust flow and included 200-cell catalysers, also the engine performance rises by approximately 20hp / 15kW and 25Nm torque. Moreover, the response behaviour significantly improves in the lower speed range.</p>
<p>Individually adjusted to the requirements of the models, are the two GEMBALLA-end pipes versions. Both models have the engraved GEMBALLA nameplate, but otherwise they are completely different. But let’s start at the beginning. <span id="more-359"></span></p>
<p>The system is available now for various Porsche 997 models and soon the Audi R8 and other models will feel the benefits of pneumatic suspension that lifts the front axle up to 55mm at the touch of a button. So steep parking ramps or high pavements, a real horror scenario with low cars, can be conquered without cracks to the nerves or spoiler. Critically, though, this flexibility cannot hurt the handling and the handling relies on BILSTEIN B16 DampTronic® adjustable suspension. “A super sports car shouldn’t end up as a cafe racer or a boulevard cruiser”, says Michael Schnarr, Manager of Cargraphic along with his brother Thomas.</p>
<p>So over to the man himself, widely considered the greatest rally driver of all time Walter Röhrl. “First, we’re going to drive on time with the system, then we’ll swap to normal suspension”, he explains. “Then I’ll try it again and only then will I be 100 per cent convinced.” So that’s the plan, but will there be a happy ending for Walter Röhrl and the Airlift Suspension?</p>
