At the turn of the year, TECHART Automobildesign opened a new and modern US-sales headquarter in Irvine, California. “The North American automobile market is one of our most important sales markets in the world.
Trained and qualified staff on-site, amongst others coming from the TECHART headquarters in Leonberg, Germany, ensures a professional, competent and individual service and quality of consultancy. The same goes for the engineering team, which is responsible for high-quality individualization of the Porsche vehicles in the modern in-house workshop.

For around 30 years the brand GEMBALLA has been a global name in the performance improvement and modification of predominantly Porsche vehicles, and in the construction of own-brand vehicles based on Porsche body shells. GEMBALLA has made a name for itself as one of the most extreme Porsche tuners and has received worldwide attention with its modified Porsches such as the GEMBALLA Avalanche, which is based on the Porsche 911, or the GEMBALLA Mirage GT, based on the Porsche Carrera GT.

Since August 16, 2010, Andreas Schwarz (40) has been in charge of the emotional GEMBALLA brand. Schwarz reserved the rights of the old company that had already been broken up by liquidators and shut down, and founded a new company, GEMBALLA GmbH. The company headquarters are located at Mollenbachstraße 17 in Leonberg.

“With a totally new company and an investment of millions, we are now looking towards a secure future”, says managing director (CEO) Andreas Schwarz. The educated Swabian is a sports car expert, who has many years’ experience in upgrading and marketing luxury high-class automobiles. Together with investor Steffen Korbach, the new creator of GEMBALLA cars has made cost-efficient plans.

“As well as the rights to the name, we’ve also purchased some assets and are starting off with 22 employees”, Schwarz continues. “We plan to continue the GEMBALLA design line following the old models. We’re already working on various concepts for the Porsche Panamera and the new Porsche Cayenne among others.”

The main goal: to expand and develop the GEMBALLA brand as a manufacturer. Without facing too much time pressure. Currently, Andreas Schwarz is making plans in motor tuning and the marketing of parts such as bodykits, rims, brakes and suspension systems.

“We’ve got enormous potential in this area that can be taken advantage of – the recognition of the GEMBALLA name with its near 30-year tradition really helps”, says Andreas Schwarz.

That is why we will see automobile creations from GEMBALLA in the future – with a breath of fresh air for the brand and reliable business under the GEMBALLA name. The showroom in Leonberg is now open for customers and all interested parties.

It is official! Gemballa has closed its doors. The German tuner – based in Leonberg – has ended its operation after 30 years of tuning cars. Gemballa was one of the biggest specialists in the tuning scene. A law firm hired by his wife filed the bankruptcy. The liquidator finished the case at the end of April.

The company stopped operations after Uwe Gemballa got lost in the middle of February this year. The last contact with the 54-year-old Gemballa was on February 9th. During a telephone call with his son he asked his family to transfer a large amount of money, which he needed as a result of an accident. The German police is still investigating the story.

Gemballa was known for its special projects like the MIG-U1, Mirage GT, Tornado 750 GTS, Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R and Avalanche 600 GT2 EVO. The company had fourty employees and several dealers around the world in Europe, Middle East, Russia and the United States.

This final story leaves us with the heritage of an unique tuner, one who has been among the biggest in the world, but also with a lot of open questions still to be answered.

Shift down a gear, come to rest – TECHART has organized the turn of the year very differently. After TECHART’s full size SUV speed record in the Italian Nardo, the TECHART GT Street RS based on the 911 GT2 broke the former lap record at the Sachsenring race track. High speed, pace, uniqueness – 100 % TECHART.

In the comparison carried out by AutoBild SPORTSCARS, TECHART impressively asserted its superiority over the competitors. Already before the record drive on the 3,671-meter circuit, the TECHART GT Street RS impressed spectators and proved its unique versatility. Apart from the sprinter qualities demonstrated several times, which were once more unheard of (from 0 to 100 km/hh in only 3.5 sec), the sports car displayed another quality that was just as important: A 36-yard braking distance at a speed of 100 km/h is looking to find its match. Once again, TECHART’s basic principles were confirmed: TÜV-tested and approved components as well as OEM quality in every detail.

For the conclusion of the extensive test program, the TECHART GT Street RS was able to crown once more the performance achieved on this day. With a lap time of 1:31.94 min, the winner of the Tuner Grand Prix 2008 and 2009 repeatedly demonstrated the TECHART winning gene. With more than 1.95 sec of head start, it left not only the competitors far behind, but improved the current AutoBild SPORTSCARS lap record at the Sachsenring by an unprecedented 4.47 sec.

GEMBALLA Automobiltechnik GmbH & Co. Measuring only 365 millimetres in diameter and an ergonomic shape for extra grip, it is most suitable for dynamic drivers.

For the extra amount motor sports feeling, GEMBALLA practicably placed F1 rocker switches in the classical switch scheme behind the steering wheel rim – up right and down left. An integrated full size airbag guarantees the accustomed safety.

The new steering wheel also convinces visually. With its modern 3-spoke design, it perfectly integrates into the current Cayenne interior. The customer can chose from numerous colour variations in order to match each serial or optional configuration.

With Uwe Alzen and Adrian Sutil, TECHART is acquiring two new brand ambassadors. The two racing drivers will be at TECHART’s disposal in 2009 as representatives of the brand and also as test drivers. In this function, they will be supporting TECHART in the development of various components. “Both drivers have a wealth of knowledge from the motor racing scene.

In this regard, thanks to his many years of experience in the touring car series and long-distance championships, Uwe Alzen is an expert who is in great demand,” says Thomas Behringer, Managing Director of TECHART Automobildesign GmbH, Leonberg, backing up this move.

Uwe Alzen was born on August 18, 1967 in Kirchen, Germany. The 41-year-old looks back over a long racing career. His motor racing roots can be traced back to the Nürburgring Nordschleife racing circuit in the VLN series (Veedol Long-Distance Cup Nürburgring), where he still races today on occasion. Uwe Alzen’s spectacular style of driving not only makes him highly popular but also feared. He started out back in 1993 in the DTM (German Touring Cars Championship), where he raced in various teams driving Mercedes-Benz and Opel up until 2002. He claimed 6 victories out of the 126 races he lined up for. In 1993, he won the 24 Hours of Spa driving a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR, along with Christian Fittipaldi and Jean-Pierre Jarier. In the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans behind the wheel of a Porsche 911

GT1, he was beaten by his team colleagues. In 2000, he won the 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race driving a Porsche 996 GT3. As a professional racing driver, Alzen mainly races in the Porsche Cup series (Supercup in Germany). He won the Porsche Supercup both in 1994 and 2007. He also just missed out winning these titles in recent years mostly by only a narrow margin and, in 2006, came second in both series, winning four races in each. On the Nordschleife racing circuit, Uwe Alzen holds the VLN lap record (8:09.949), which he set in 2005 driving his brother’s Porsche Turbo.

Adrian Sutil was born on January 11, 1983 in Munich, Germany. Sutil’s motor racing career began at the age of 13 with kart racing. National and international successes paved the way for his entry into formula racing. By racing in the Formula Ford class in Switzerland, which he won on his first attempt, Formula BMW-ADAC and Formula 3, he was finally awarded his first contract in Formula 1 in 2007 with the Spyker team. He still races in this class today for the Indian successor team Force India on the side of Giancarlo Fisichella. His best result in Formula 1 was in 2007, when he came 8th in the Japanese Grand Prix and won a World Championship point. In spite of his outstanding racing performances, Sutil has thus far missed out winning further points on account of his inferior car. Adrian Sutil actually comes from a family of successful musicians. For example, up until the age of 14, he was a talented and sponsored junior pianist. He first came into contact with motor racing through his older brother at the age 13 during a visit to a karting track.

Top times for TECHART at this year’s Tuner Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring race track. Behind the wheel of the TECHART GTstreet RS based on Porsche 911 GT2, racing driver Jörg Hardt left the competition with no chance and won the duel in the GT Turbo class. This meant that he was able to repeat last year’s victory. The sport auto Tuner Grand Prix is the world’s largest trial of strength in the tuning sector.

The TECHART-modified 911 GT2 won with an average lap time of 1:08.037 minutes over five laps driven around the small circuit of the Hockenheimring race track. This means that the team drove precisely 0.604 seconds faster than the team in second place, and went on to claim overall victory for all the classes entered. Thanks to modified VTG turbochargers, the engine generates 700 bhp / 515 kW at 7,000 rpm and puts down a maximum torque of 860 Nm onto the tarmac at 4,500 rpm. The car is capable of top speeds of up 350 km/h.

Besides the driving skills and high-performance engine, the decisive factor for this victory was above all the perfectly tuned suspension. In collaboration with the technology partners Bilstein and Michelin, the height-adjustable TECHART sports suspension was perfectly tuned to the circuit.

For the time trial, the TECHART team opted for high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires on account of the summer temperatures. Running on the single-piece TECHART Formula GTS light alloy rims in the dimensions 8.5Jx20 at the front and 12Jx20 at the rear, the Michelin tires ensured outstanding grip. The winning driver, Jörg Hardt, who has been racing successfully in motor sports for years, was utterly impressed: “The car had been prepared extremely professionally for the event. The tires performed steady and kept a very high level during the whole competition”.

In addition to the victory in the GT Turbo class, Jörg Hardt and the TECHART team also performed exceptionally well in the Coupé / Cabriolet-turbo class. The TECHART GTstreet R Cabrio on the basis of the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet took first place like last year. Achieving a time of 1:09.601, the car had a 3.186 second advantage over its competitors.

Jörg Hardt perfected the triumph by coming first in the SUV class. The TECHART Magnum, based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, was entered into the race. Equipped with the 550 bhp of the production vehicle, an aerokit and sports air suspension module, TECHART achieved the winning time of 1:16.939 for the first time in the heavyweight class. The necessary grip was ensured by the Michelin Diamaris sport tires fitted on 22 inch TECHART Formula rims.

“With the victories also racked up this year, TECHART is underscoring its outstanding position in the automotive individualization sector”, says Marc Herdtle, Marketing Director at TECHART Automobildesign GmbH, in recognition of these achievements.
